Eid al-Adha is the day of trial and test of Prophet Abraham (pbuh) and Prophet Ismail (pbuh) from which they came out proud. [1] The tradition of sacrifice on the day of Eid al-Adha is also a commemoration of the slaughter of Ismail. [2] Prophet Abraham according to a dream that He had seen that he was ordered to sacrifice his child. During the sacrifice, Ibrahim put his son’s forehead on the ground and put a sharp blade on his throat. But the knife did not cut his neck, and finally when the father and son showed their complete submission to the divine command, God accepted his action and instead of sacrificing his son, Abraham sacrificed a ram brought by Gabriel.[3] According to some traditions, all the animals that are slaughtered in the land of Mena on the day of Eid al-Adha; The ransom is Hazrat Ismail.[4]

In the age of ignorance, sacrifice was not free from the filth of polytheism. The Kaaba was polluted with the blood of the sacrifice and its meat was hung on the house of the Kaaba so that God would accept it. In the Qur’an, this practice is called reprehensible and the condition of accepting the sacrifice is piety. [5] It is this piety and purity for sacrificing that this day is called Hajj Akbar. [6]

Another name for the Eid of Sacrifice is Eid al-Adha and Eid of Blood. Dehkhoda remembers this day as Gospandakshan Eid.[7]
