Translation of volume 1 of the Book of Ghadir
In the name of God
Translator’s introduction:
With the permission of the blessed presence of the pious master – the imam of mankind and the jinn and the rightful successor of the prophet of the end of time.
A translation can never do justice to the content of the original text. Especially if the original text is literary rich and contains technical terms. But what can be done?
Greetings to the pure soul of Allamah Amini, who spent his precious life serving the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (a.s.) and wrote a book called Al-Ghadir.
Al-Ghadir’s book has 20 volumes, 11 of which are printed in Arabic and 11 of which have been translated into Persian in 22 volumes. In this book, the author refers to 110 companions and 84 followers of the Prophet who narrated the Hadith of Ghadeer. Then he counts 360 narrators of Ghadir hadith from the second to the fourteenth century.
Due to the heavy text of the book, sometimes we had to replace some phrases for a smoother translation, and we hereby apologize to Allameh Amini and you.
Allameh Amini has suffered many hardships to prepare this book and has traveled to different countries and has suffered tongues from friends and enemies. We mention one of these cases as a reminder.
Allama used to say: I needed Zamakhshari’s book “Rabi al-Abrar” authored by al-Ghadir, and this book was rare at that time, only three manuscripts were available, one copy of which was with one of the great Ayats of Najaf Ashraf, and this scholar had passed away, and the library He inherited it from his son.
I went to that person’s house and asked to borrow the book for three days, but he refused. I said; Give a loan for two days or if the person refuses for another day. I said: lend me three hours, but the person refused, finally I said; Let me study in your house, he refused again!!
Then I was completely disappointed, I went to the shrine of Hazrat Amir Ali (peace be upon him) and complained to him, and then I returned home with sadness and stayed awake at night. Near the morning, I had a dream. In my dream, I met Hazrat Amir (a.s.) and asked for my needs. The Imam replied: “Your needs are in front of my son Hussain (peace be upon him).
